If, like many of us, you are unfamiliar with Turkish composers, come to the final concert of the Curtis at All Hallows 3rd season on May 3. The Curtis Winds, under the mentor-ship of the Grammy-winning Imani Winds, will feature a work by the contemporary Anatolian composer, Fazil Say. The delightful Alevi Dedeler raki masasindaI (Alevi Fa-thers at the Raki Table) humorously describes an everyday scene in an Anatolian vil-lage: the conversation between Alevi fathers drinking raki (a potent alcoholic bever-age) at a well-laid table. (Alevism is an offshoot of Islam whose adherents follow the mystical teachings of Haji Bektash Veli.) Come and experience this “Turkish Delight!”
