Mission:


The Commission on Gun Violence is a diocesan commission with members from across the diocese who are committed to ending gun violence in our communities. We seek to build peace by actively resisting gun violence and providing resources to the Diocese to address and reduce this destructive force.

The diocese's Anti-Gun Violence (AGV) Commission needs your voice. AGV Commission leads many programs including A Year of Faithful Witness, a year-long program to raise awareness about gun violence. To get involved contact Canon Toneh Smyth.

Interested in joining the Commission on Gun Violence?

We meet the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6pm (virtual)

We are looking for individuals who:

 •  Are great with social media presence

 •  Are interested in being more active in gun violence prevention

 •  Want to help represent the diocese at functions such as rallies, gun violence prevention events, peace walks, etc.

 •  Want to figure out how your church can help your community and surrounding community

 •  Not sure how you can help but willing to learn and do what you can!

Sign Up Your Church.

Create a letter-writing campaign to your district's elected representatives to help stop gun violence. We have a call as Christians to love others as Jesus commanded us to do, These letters will advocate for common sense gun control in Pennsylvania. Watch a short video from a young member of the Schuylkill Deanery of the Diocese of Pennsylvania as an example of how and why it is important.

BUAGV is Bishops United Against Gun Violence. Bishop Gutiérrez is a co-convener of BUAGV, a group of more than 100 Episcopal bishops working to curtail the epidemic of gun violence in the United States.
