In Memoriam: The Rev. John Kim

Seal of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania

Information provided by the Rev. Bud Holland:

The Rev. John Kim died on January 15, 2023. Kim was known personally to some of you from his time at St. George's, Ardmore during which he participated in the sacramental life of the parish and attended services faithfully with his wife, Sue. A stroke eleven years ago meant that he has not been able to be with us physically in recent years, as Sue cared for him at home, although he has remained in our prayers.

Kim was born in Korea and trained in law, and moved to Hawaii in 1971. He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii in 1988. He and Sue came to Philadelphia in 1998 for Kim to work at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral, and he was ordained a priest that year by Bishop Bennison. Beginning in 2006, he worked as a port chaplain with the Seaman's Church Institute (SCI). He and Sue came to St. George's after his retirement from SCI.

Kim is predeceased by their daughter, Lisa, who died last year in Hawaii. In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, please join me in prayer for Fr. Kim and Lisa, as they move into the nearer presence of God, and for Sue in her grief.

Kim's funeral will be on Friday, February 3, the visitation is at 9:00 a.m. with requiem at 10:00 a.m. at St. George's in Ardmore.

Letters of condolence may be sent to:
