My Siblings in Christ,

As you know, our diocese has a very close, covenantal, relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. In the midst of this terrible violence and bloodshed, my friend Archbishop Hosam asks that Tuesday, October 17th be marked as a day of fasting and prayer.  You can read his full statement below.

As Christians we are intimately connected to one another. We are part of the larger Body of Christ. As Episcopalians, we are united with our siblings of the global Anglican Communion.

I therefore ask that the people of this diocese join with our siblings in Jerusalem, the Holy Land, and around the world, on Tuesday, October 17th in deep prayer and fasting. To further support this commitment, I also ask that our churches be opened as sanctuaries of prayer that day. Let us join together to pray for peace, reconciliation and an end to war.

The Rt. Reverend Daniel G. P. Gutiérrez

XVI Bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania
