Art and Faith: The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral

Be inspired. The Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania is pleased to share the first in a series of videos dedicated to unique stories of the relationship between art and faith.

We begin  with The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral and its long tradition of welcoming art and artists into their space.

Acclaimed Philadelphia artist - and parishioner - John Dowell felt called by his grandmother in a dream to travel to the cotton fields in South Carolina where his ancestors had likely been enslaved. Thus he began a photographic journey into the world of cotton, treating it as both subject and metaphor. In COTTON, Dowell’s amazing and evocative images will surround the audience, as this dramatic song cycle with poets’ readings, unfolds.

Dowell's art is highlighted by song at Lyric Fest on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral. More at www.lyricfest.org.
