The diocese has partnered with the American Diabetes Association to offer  community youth camps for two separate sessions: October 5 – 21, 2021; and November 2 – 18, 2021. The camp is Tuesday and Thursday of those weeks from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Families looking to sign up for this program should email Canon Toneh Smyth, tsmyth@diopa.org. The following churches in the diocese are hosting both weeks:

  • St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Roxborough
  • St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Germantown
  • Calvary St. Augustine, Phila.
  • St. Andrew St. Monica, Phila.
  • Church of the Incarnation, Morrisville
  • Christ and St. Ambrose, Phila.

This is an afterschool program for elementary and middle school-aged youth (ages 5 – 12), designed to prevent type 2 diabetes and obesity.  Participants work on activity journals and engage in games meant to encourage healthy habits.  The program is free.

The purpose of the camps is to help with food equity among community members who would like to eat better but cannot afford it. It is designed to educate youth and their families on the health benefits of eating better, and feeling better with good nutrition. Families will go through a series of activities that will help educate them on the subject of better eating.

Families will get to interact with others in their communities, allowing for support during the sessions and activities that will be offered.
