City Camp was created 10 years ago as a summer day camp for kids and their families in the underserved neighborhoods of the diocese. The diocese provides staff and financial support to churches who want to have the camp but are unable to support it. Churches host one or two weeks of the camp, inviting the surrounding community to participate.
We are grateful to Andrew Kellner for its founding in 2009. The Rev. Kellner now serves as the Chaplain of St. James School which was founded through City Camp.
One of our founding sites, St. Gabriel’s, has flown from the nest and is venturing out on their own. St. Luke’s in Germantown took the year off for renovation of their grounds for a new water-drainage system. We continue to provide a multi-week camp at St. Simon the Cyrenian to the under-served families of the Point Breeze section in South Philadelphia.
Below is a list of City Camp sites for the 2019 summer season:
- Church of the Advocate (new site!)
- Trinity, Boothwyn
- Christ and St. Ambrose
- Church of the Four Chaplains at the Philadelphia Navy Yard (new site!)
- Calvary/St. Augustine (new site!)
- St. Mary’s, Chester
- St. Martin-in-the-Fields
Meet Our Leaders
Ms. Torrie Robinson, the new City Camp director, is a native of New Jersey. A believer and follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ, Torrie has worked in ministry in her local church, afterschool programs and in special education. Torrie’s passion for mentoring youth led to her founding the Queen Camp in 2014, an empowerment program for young girls. She has held multiple management and leadership roles to encourage, inspire and move youth in the direction of excellence through the love of our Lord and Saviour. Torrie’s mantra is “Go! Be yourself and be GREAT!”
Mr. Roberto Morales-Velez, the sexton for Youth Ministry, serves as the assistant director for City Camp. Roberto attended the first City Camp ten years ago, and has been an integral part of its operation since then.
