2023 youth gun violence prevention series

Five educational gun violence awareness and prevention workshops for high school students.  Each participant will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card upon completion of the series. RSVP to Vanessa Scott at intern@diopa.org or 267-225-5236. Topics include:

4/8: Safety Net/ Gun Violence Prevention w/ Scott Charles 

One of the only hospital-based violence prevention programs of its kind, Cradle to Grave offers young people a behind-the-scenes look into the physical, emotional, and social realities of firearm injury. During the 2-hour program, participants explore the real life and death experiences of a Philadelphia teen whose story serves as the backdrop for this unflinching look at gun violence. 

4/15: Incarceration Prevention Workshop w/ R. Seth Williams 

Second Chance Strategies provides education services to prevent incarceration as well as crime prevention, recidivism reduction, conflict resolution, gun violence reduction, and job readiness skills.  

4/22: Teen Dating Violence/ Safe Dates w/ Black Women’s Health Alliance 

Safe Dates is a highly engaging and interactive program that targets attitudes and behaviors associated with dating abuse and violence. The target audience for Safe Dates is male and female teens between the ages of 12 and 18 that reside in Philadelphia County. 

4/29:- Financial Literacy w/ Mary Campbell 

Mary Campbell offers a rare safe space for young African Americans to learn financial skills, talk authentically about money and financial matters, and leave feeling empowered with the knowledge of wealth building. 

5/6: Closing Reflection/ Luncheon w/ Jeannel Graham- Tillman and Dedra Riddick  

Clinical Social Workers will facilitate a group with participants to reflect on the entire sessions and what they have learned. Clinicians will spend some time helping participants to assess and process their emotions in regard to the things they have been taught over the last 6-weeks coupled with their personal experiences. The Session will end with a catered lunch and music.
