Reentry into Community: An Interfaith Conversation on Successful Reintegration in West Philly (and beyond)

How can faith communities support people recently released from incarceration?  Jobs, food, and housing are essential. But can we build a caring community of support that is localized and grassroots?

On June 9th, during the Philadelphia month of reentry, we aim to build a broad-based interfaith coalition of houses of worship, faith communities, & other neighborhood organizations in West and Southwest Philadelphia. Brief introductions by panelists will widen into an hour-long townhall conversation examining barriers to success and potential next steps. Aiming to revitalize inclusive neighborly love in West Philadelphia and beyond!

Panelists include:

  • Rev. Donna Jones, Executive Director, MCCP, Inc. & Pastor, Cookman Beloved Baptist Church
  • Rev. Dr Lori Banfield, Executive Director, Redemption Housing
  • Former State Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell, Chair, Healing Communities PA, Founder, the CHARLES Foundation & the DONTE Initiative
  • Mr. Nick Lordi, Senior Program Director, Project Home, Founder Redemption Housing
  • Jerue Lawson, Restorative Cities Initiative Hub Leader
  • Moderated by Rev. Dr. Chris Kimmenez (Healing Communities, PA) and Miriam Wattles (Calvary St. Augustine parishioner and Deacon Aspirant)

All are welcome—in person or online, but register ahead. Questions? Contact: miriam@ucsb.edu or cmkimmenez@yahoo.com.  (Resource Tables, Light Meal & Refreshments Provided)
