ECS Reducing Stigma

Addressing the stigma of mental illness is important at any time, but particularly so now. The collective trauma the nation and especially under-resourced communities of color experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic impacted mental health profoundly. Long periods of social isolation and economic uncertainty overwhelmed many adults – particularly those with existing mental health challenges. This ECS event will:

  • Suggest ways to address and overcome the stigma of mental health in low-income communities of color;
  • Help people understand how culturally competent mental health providers of color can effectively serve communities;
  • Make clear how to access mental health resources and programs in West Philadelphia and across the Philadelphia region.
