Praying Twice: Chanting for the Church and for the Self

St. Augustine of Hippo said that to sing is to pray twice. For millennia, the liturgy has been sung, not only as a practical way for God’s word to be heard but also for the way in which music elevates words to a different spiritual level. This retreat focuses not only on the practical aspects of chanting parts of the liturgy (e.g., collects, the Gospel, the sursum corda, and Eucharistic preface), with a focus on good singing technique but on using singing as a way of personal spiritual formation.
