Are you looking for a program that explores both the history of the Episcopal Church and its social mission? The Youth Ministry Office in partnership with Episcopal Community Services can help!

The Confirmation Program educates young people about the historical roots of the Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. It also celebrates the Diocese of Pennsylvania’s unique contribution to God’s mission of compassion, justice and reconciliation through the work of Episcopal Community Services and the commitment of individuals and parish communities from around the Diocese.

The program can be adjusted to fit your individual parish or group’s needs. But here is a brief overview of what is available!

  • Visit Christ Church, Philadelphia and Burial Grounds to learn of the beginnings of the Episcopal Church in America and its contribution to the founding of the country.
  • Visit Episcopal Community Services to learn about the social Gospel movement.
  • Continue with a presentation of contemporary justice issues and an overview of opportunities for young people to get involved with other programs at the diocesan offices at Church House.
  • Lunch (provided for an additional fee or at any number of restaurants in the area).
  • Meet a Bishop
  • Visit one or any combination of the following:
    • The Seaman’s Church Institute to hear about the commitment of the Episcopal Church to those who work and travel by sea.
    • The Philadelphia Cathedral to tour the architectural recreation of a fourth century church and hear about the cathedral’s many programs.
    • The Church of the Advocate to see its architecture, learn its place in the civil rights movement, its significance in the process of ordaining women to the priesthood, and its continued commitment to social justice in urban America.
    • Or explore any number of the other churches, sights or museums in Philadelphia.
