Liturgical Festival of Hymns

Philadelphia Cathedral is pleased to announce the Third Annual Liturgical Festival. The Cathedral Singers, under the direction of Dr. Riyehee Hong, will sing a service of hymns both ancient and modern that awaken and stir the spirit.
Hymns include: Dear Lord and Father of mankind, John Greenleaf Whittier, sung to the tune of Repton with music taken from Hubert Parry’s Judith, Praise to the Lord, Catherine Winkworth, sung to the tune of Lobe den Herren, Christ is made the sure foundation, John Mason Neale, sung to the tune of Westminster Abbey, adapted from Henry Purcell, All my hope on God is founded, Robert Bridges, sung to the Michael by Herbert Howells, and Franz Listz’s Hymne de l’enfant a son reveile and many other favorites. The congregation will be invited to join the Cathedral Singers in some powerful and uplifting hymn concertatos. Also featured in the Festival will be the world premiere of a hymn composed by renowned Boston University professor and Marsh Chapel organist Dr. Max B. Miller.
The Philadelphia Cathedral strives to deepen, broaden and enrich the language of worship through events such as the Liturgical Festival. Please invite your friends and members of your congregation for a joyous evening of singing.
A free-will offering will be taken to help defray some of the expenses and to support the Cathedral’s Organ Restoration Fund.
